Bio

Monica Lopez studied Visual Arts at the Technological Institute of the Arts of Ecuador (ITAE) and obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arts of Ecuador in 2019, with a specialization in Pictorial Poetics and Digital Media. Her work explores ideas about the impact of global visual culture and the circulation of images in the post-internet era.

Her artwork has been exhibited and awarded in national museum exhibitions, including receiving the 1st prize at the 55th Salon de Julio in 2014 and the 3rd International Huaylá Prize in 2019. In 2019, she had her first solo exhibition titled “55 Cancri e” at the DPM gallery. She was also selected by the Municipal Museum of Modern Art for funding an exhibit project, which was inaugurated as her second solo exhibition, “Terra Incognita,” at the City Hall Gallery in 2022 and subsequently at the Museum of Anthropology and Contemporary Art (MAAC) in 2023.


She has participated in various group exhibitions in Ecuador, her work has been published by Hoax Publications in the United Kingdom, and she took part in the Art Teleported 2022 Art Show and Conference for Nomadic Artists at the CICA Museum in South Korea.
